E-signature: signing a document you were sent
Your property manager can send a lease or a related document for you to sign online instead of on paper. This guide walks through what that looks like from the signer's side.

What e-signature is
E-signature lets your property manager send a document, such as a lease, an addendum or a renewal, to each person who needs to sign it, and collect those signatures online. Each signer signs separately, and the document is complete once everyone on it has signed.
E-signature is one of the capabilities that is switched off for organizations during the beta and turned on per organization. If your property manager hasn't enabled it, you'll be given documents the way you always have been.
How you sign
- You get an email. It's titled with your property manager's name and the document's name, and has a Review and sign button. If you have a tenant portal account, the link takes you to the portal; if you're signing as a guarantor or co-signer without an account, it's a single-use link that expires on the date shown in the email.
- You're shown a disclosure about signing electronically. Before you sign, you open the Consent to Electronic Records and Signatures as a PDF, which confirms you can view documents in the electronic form that will be used, and then give your consent. Your consent is recorded with the date and time and the version of the disclosure you were shown.
- You review and sign the document. Only the named signer can sign; the signing session is created at the moment you ask for it.
- Once everyone has signed, you're emailed a copy. Every signer receives the fully signed PDF as an attachment. Keep it for your records.
Asking for paper instead
Signing electronically is not required. You can ask your property manager for a paper copy of any document and sign on paper. You can also withdraw your consent to electronic signing later; that stops new electronic signing sessions from starting and does not change documents you already signed. The full wording is in the disclosure you're shown before you sign.

Common questions
The link says it has expired. Ask your property manager to send the request again; they can also send a reminder with a fresh link.
I didn't get the email. Check spam, then confirm with your property manager that they have your current email address. Signing requests go to the address they have on file.
Who do I contact with a question? Your property manager first; the email also lists support@rentova.com for questions about the service. See Support.
